Nota d'usoFatal e mortal significano principalmente “mortale”, nel senso di “ciò che cagiona morte”. Tra i due è più comune fatal, che si può riferire sia al passato che al futuro: a fatal accident, un incidente mortale; The disease may prove fatal, la malattia potrebbe rivelarsi mortale. Anche se spesso si ignora questa distinzione, mortal propriamente si riferisce solo al passato e a una morte che è già avvenuta: He suffered a mortal blow to the head, subì un colpo mortale alle testa; The soldiers inflicted mortal wounds to the enemy, i soldati inflissero ferite mortali al nemico.
